i need to know id a jd4210 is enough size for my land.ill be moving dirt and stone and bush hogging with a very heavy duty 5 ft cutter.the brush has mostly 1/2" to just ove a 1" stem cover. after a few years i wont be doing much bush hogging but mowing. will probably use it for some very small gardens as well. also id like to buy used but hard to find in new york. thanks!

John: It sounds like you already have the rotary cutter.
I picked up on your comment of 'very heavy-duty cutter' but the description of the cutting as 'just over 1' stems' initially sounds more like light-duty work. Cutters often are rated as light, medium and heavy duty models and their those ratings often mean rated cutting capacities of 1", 2" and 3" materials. 'Material' is usually taken to mean woody plants such as saplings. I don't know if your use of 'very heavy-duty' refers to the cutting capacity or just the fact that there's a lot of cutting to do or the terrain is rough.
If the interpretation of is in terms of cutting capacity you should be aware that recommended minimum pto hp's for light, medium and heavy-duty models often are less than 20, 25 and 30 or more respectively for 5' models. A 5' model does sound desirable since it would cover the rear tire tracks, but I think 4'6" cutters are made.
Description of the work sounds initially doable but marginal for a light-duty cutter and definitely light-duty later. People do regularly exceed recommended minimum by going slower, cutting higher and maybe replacing a few shear pins and of course less hp is needed for cutting light material with heavier duty models.
I think a 4210 has around 22 pto hp so it certainly falls in the range of most light duty model recommendations but it might be marginal for the recommendations of heavier-duty cutters. The point of all this is that heavier duty models weigh more and have more inertia in their drive-trains, which places more stress on the tractor and particularly the pto clutch even when cutting light material. It's good to avoid heavier-duty models unless they actually are needed for the work.
I'm with MarkH here. It sounds like a 4210 would do the work just fine, but it might do it best with a light-duty cutter. If 'very heavy-duty' means that the terrain is rough and uneven, I might look for a light-duty model that uses the heaviest gauge body I could find and probably go for a heavy-duty tail wheel option.

ON MY 4210: 5'FIELD GENERAL ROTARY CUTTER.I WAS IN THE B-RANGE,FIRST GEAR AT 2500RPM BY THE BOOK.IT WAS A CLODY DAY 80, GRASS WAS DRY AND BROWN,EASY TO CUT. CUTTER OFF THE GROUND 5" USING THE REAR (PTO) THE WHOLE BACK END OF THE TRACTOR WAS HOT. USING A OVEN THERMOSTAT TAPE TO THE REAR (PTO) IT WAS OVER 130 DEGREE.ALL THE HEAT GOES DIRECTLY TO THE PLASTIC AND RUBBER MAT. ON A 80 +DEGREE DAY,YOU CAN'T KEEP YOUR FEET ON THE PLATFORM FOR VERY LONG.THE JD DEALER SAID IT IS A HARDSHIP ON THE PTO,TRY USING IT ON A COOL DAY.DON'T WORRY YOU HAVE A TWO YEAR WARRANTY.SATISFACTION LETTER FROM JD CO.THE INFORMATION THAT YOU HAVE PROVIDED HAS BEEN SHARED WITH THE PRODUCT ENGINEERING GROUP AT THE FACTORY.IF THE PTO GET'S HOT CUTTING GRASS,WHAT WILL HAPPEN CUTTING 1" OR 2" TREES?? THIS PROBABLY NICE IN THE WINTER. ....

Kubota has cooling fans built on to the transmission input driveshaft on some models to address just that issue. They have also gone to a higher quality (semi-synthetic??)hydraulic fluid as it seems to handle the heat better. ....

tom,im new to this computer stuff and this website so i dont always see what people have written right away.as for heavy duty cutter i meant that it weighs so much i pull the wheels off the ground when turning on my 9n,its heavily reinforced in top of the deck as well.the cutting is saplings that are six plus feet in height and generaly 1" or more in diameter. thanks for the help! ....
